Hole in Your Drywall? Follow These Simple Steps to Repairing It!
The Best Way to Patch Drywall
Repairing dry wall is a relatively simple and cheap process. Following a few simple steps and using a few simple tools will result in a high quality Do-it-Yourself repair job. In less than a few hours your dry wall will appear unscathed using the method below! The following items are required to make the repair:
- Metal Mesh Drywall Patch
- Putty Knife
- Sandpaper
- Joint Compound
Upon acquiring these items you are now ready to begin the simple process. First, place a small sheet or tarp on the ground directly below the hole. This will ensure that any dust or debris from the repair can be easily cleaned up. Next, you will want to sand the edges of the hole until they are relatively smooth. After completing this step, wipe the newly formed dust off of the hole using a damp rag. Now you are ready to apply the mesh drywall patch in a few simple steps.
- Step 1: Peel paper wrapper off adhesive side of mesh and firmly place over the hole.
- Step 2: With the mesh side facing you, spread the joint compound over the mesh with a putty knife. Feather edges and allow to dry.
- Step3: Upon drying, delicately sand wall until imperfection can no longer be detected. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as necessary.
The above method is the simplest way to repair medium/large sized holes in your drywall. For smaller holes, the process is very similar. However, you would cut the hole out with a blade knife in order to ensure that the edges are smooth instead of using sandpaper. Substitute using a mesh drywall patch for conventional painter's putty. Place painters putty over the hole and sand until the dried putty is smooth. Applying a layer of spackle over the damaged area and smoothing down the imperfections will complete the repair. Feel free to repeat the spackling and smoothing step until you are satisfied with results.
After completing either of the above repair methods, the drywall repair site is suitable for repainting.
